People get angry because he said those things to Twilight.  
Forgetting that Spike was mostly treated horribly in the first 4 seasons, and when he got some appreciation, the first 30 seconds of the next episode did the job of getting things back to normal.
 
Also, Twilight teaching/feeding/etc. Spike is still not confirmed by anyone.

The design of the bottom “dragon” is… awful.  
Seriously, even his color combination is ugly.
