the way people in my community taught me about this is that a lot of our siblings have to stay hidden, they have to keep their flags folded up in their closet and can only take them out rarely. So we keep the creases in our flags because they remind us of our siblings that cant carry their flags openly. its not universal, but it is decently common among my circle
